The middle-order batsman will remain at the County Ground until September 2015 after putting his signature to a fresh two-year deal.

This continues the preparations for a return to the top division of the domestic game, coming shortly after the news that David Sales will remain at the club for a further campaign.

Speaking about the developments, head coach David Ripley said: “I’m really pleased that Rob has signed a new contract.

“He took some big strides forward last season and showed what a good player he is.

“He can play all three formats, his bowling is a skill that can developed and he’s an excellent fielder.

“He finished the season in the team and performing well and it’ll be up to him come next year to show that is where he belongs.”

As for Sales, Ripley commented: “It’s good news for the club and for him.

““I think that we needed his experience in Division One becuase even though we’ve got some exciting young players, you do need playwers like David and Stephen (Peters) in there.

“We look better equipped with him in the group and there’s no reason why his career can’t be prolonged even further if he’s playing well and stays fit.”

Batsman James Kettleborough, who didn’t make a first team appearance in his first year with the club, has also signed a new one-year deal for the 2014 campaign.
