At the Dubai International Stadium, England’s total of 230-9 was chased down with seven balls to spare as the Sri Lankans recovered from 160-7.

Leicestershire’s Rob Sayer, who used to play for Peterborough Town in the NCL, was the pick of the attack as he took 2-33 from his 10 overs of off-spin.

Earlier in the day, Jonathan Tattersall top scored with 95 but Northamptonshire’s Ben Duckett missed the game.

Next up for England in Group D is a clash with New Zealand tomorrow (Tuesday).
