The 31-year-old right-arm medium-fast bowler has been in impressive form this season, starring in the run to the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals and also impressing in the County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup competitions.

He was awarded his County cap by skipper Alex Wakely and head coach David Ripley earlier this season and has now been rewarded with a new deal.

“I am delighted that Azhar has committed to Northants for a further two years,” Ripley said.

“We have been very good for each other and he is extremely well liked by players, staff and supporters at the club.

“He is an integral part of the squad in both forms of cricket and that has recently been reflected in awarding Azhar his County cap.

“His dynamic performances have been crucial in many of our recent victories and no doubt there will be more to come.

“I am very much looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season and on into the future.”
