Burrell keeping feet on the ground after first England EPS call

The centre was one of seven Saints players selected by head coach Stuart Lancaster ahead of next month’s autumn internationals.

It was the first time Burrell had graced the EPS, having previously impressed for his country as injury cover during the Six Nations.

He scored three tries in that tournament, including registering on his debut in France, but Burrell is remaining grounded ahead of the next set of international matches.

He said: “I wouldn’t say I feel like an England player, I try to just keep my wits about me, stay grounded and keep working hard.

“It’s obviously quite difficult when you see your opposite man trying to take your head off because they want that England jersey.

“You obviously have got a lot of pressure on your shoulders but for me it’s about keeping my wits about me, keep training hard and being at my best week in, week out.

“It’s a tough run-in in the build-up to the World Cup, the four biggest teams in the world right now.

“It’s going to be a huge test and hopefully I can play my part in those games, but I’m concentrating on playing well for Northampton and I’ve got a chance at the weekend to impress.”

England’s autumn international campaign begins with a game against New Zealand at Twickenham on November 8, with matches against Australia, Samoa and South Africa following on consecutive weekends.
