Work on an extension to a mosque in Wellingborough will begin this weekend with a foundation-laying ceremony.
Shahjalal Jame Masjid will start extending its base in Winstanley Road, which also acts as a community centre, at 1.30pm on Sunday (October 9).
The extension will cost £105,000 and will allow a number of sports activities, arts classes, youth groups, a community cafe and much more.
The centre was formed just more than a year ago and has grown to be a well-established association which caters for the needs of the Muslim community in the town.
General secretary Mohiuddin Choudhary said: “It is our pleasure that after a struggle to get funds, finalise the building plan and obtain planning permission for our extension, the day of the start of work has arrived.
“We warmly invite everyone to attend the ceremony.”
Guests will be welcomed at 1.30pm with the foundation laying ceremony at 1.50pm.
The chairman and guests will then address the congregation with refreshments at 2.30pm.
