Work starts next week on new zebra crossing in Thrapston

Motorists are being warned of some disruption to travel and potential delays while the project by Northamptonshire County Council takes place.

During the first week - starting on Monday, February 8 - work will be carried out during off-peak times using three-way traffic lights – in both directions of Huntingdon Road as well as in Market Road.

The second week of the project coincides with school half-term, when traffic levels are typically lighter than during term-time.

During this period the three-way lights will still be in operation at off-peak times, apart from two days during this week – Tuesday, February 16 (9am to 4pm) and Wednesday, February 17 (9am to 4pm) when a full road closure is necessary to resurface part of Huntingdon Road.

During this closure, access to/from Market Road will not be available from Huntingdon Road and all traffic should go via Midland Road.

As with any highways project, all works are weather dependent and, as such, the resurfacing work may continue into a third day.

It is anticipated that the overall scheme will be completed in two weeks however, again, adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances may cause it to run over into a third week.

During the road closure the diversion route will be signed via Oundle Road and the A605, which will also include HGVs wanting to access the town centre.

Oundle Road is subject to a 7.5T weight restriction but this will be lifted for the purposes of the diversion route, and will take full effect again once the closures have ended.
