Work is due to start on dozens of new houses in Rushden this week.

Barratt Homes Northampton is launching two new sites in Rushden and Brixworth, which should lead to hundreds of jobs for local people.

The homebuilder will begin work on Goulsbra Road in Rushden this week and on Northampton Road in Brixworth in the next two weeks.

About 400 jobs will be created in helping to build and sell the new houses.

The land acquired in Rushden is for a new development named Lancaster Manor where Barratt Homes will build a range of 73 two, three and four bedroom homes. The first residents could move into the new homes next year.

The new development in Brixworth is called Saxon Rise and will comprise of 150 two, three, four and five bedroom homes, with construction set to start in mid-September. The first homes are expected to be ready to move into in February next year.

These new developments are two of 10 new projects that the county-based homebuilder plans to start work on over the next 12 months.

Andrew Swindell, managing director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We’re extremely excited to have secured planning permission for these two new developments, which will supplement Northamptonshire’s housing market with some much needed new homes.

“As a local housebuilder, we aim to make our developments as sustainable as possible bringing wide ranging benefits to the local area.

“By contributing towards public facilities and infrastructure, we’re ensuring that the local community will benefit from these improvements for many years to come.

“We look forward to bringing a number of new sites of this calibre going forward this year and in to 2014.”
