Work set to start on new bridges for Wellingborough's Stanton Cross development
Work is due to start next month on two new bridges as part of a major housing development for Wellingborough.
Bovis Homes, the housebuilder behind Wellingborough’s Stanton Cross scheme, has been given planning permission by Wellingborough Council for its latest designs for a new rail bridge and river crossing for the area.
The new bridges are part of the major project and will provide a much needed link between the new Stanton Cross development, Wellingborough train station and the town.
The rail bridge, which is located to the north of Wellingborough train station, and the river bridge, which will cross the River Ise, are integral parts of the first major infrastructure route for the scheme (Route Four).
This will run from Midland Road, across the railway and through a new town and country park into the new development.
Both have been designed to complement the local architecture and landscape.
The initial designs were updated in June in line with public feedback and were adapted to improve the longevity of the bridge structures, with the hope they will retain a high quality appearance for a greater number of years.
Construction of the new rail bridge and river crossing is expected to begin in August.
John Lougher, Bovis Homes group land director responsible for Stanton Cross, said: “We are delighted to have received planning permission for this new rail bridge and river crossing for the area.
“We are committed to improving and delivering infrastructure for Wellingborough and ensuring the new structures complement the surrounding architecture and landscape.
“We are looking forward to pressing forward with these plans and taking the next step in our exciting Stanton Cross project.”
Construction is already under way at Stanton Cross with the delivery of the first wave of new homes and community facilities anticipated to be complete in 2017.
When complete, Stanton Cross will comprise of 3,650 homes, transport infrastructure, schools, community facilities and new parks and green spaces.
