PEOPLE feared a major water pipe had burst in Rushden town centre but it turned out to be flushing work carried out by Anglian Water.
The firm was outside Asda in the town yesterday carrying out the work which involves pumping water through the mains to clean them.
A spokesman said: “This is vital work we have to do to ensure the water we supply customers is kept to an appropriate standard.
“We were careful with the water we used, making sure it went back into the system via the sewers and waterworks.
“We’ll be cleaning the mains in Rushden over the next few weeks.”
