Work commenced following the completion of an intensive dig by a team from the Museum of London Archaeology, during which it was established that a medieval settlement had once been on the site.

Their findings included a silver penny from the 1100s, a collection of musket balls and a copper ring. Detailed plans are now being drawn up to preserve the archaeologists’ findings for future generations.

Managing director of Kier Living Eastern Nick Moore said: “The turf cutting at Raunds signals the start of a fantastic new development, one of which we’re extremely proud.

“We’re sure the work will go smoothly and quickly, and will look forward to welcoming residents to this new community.”
