Corby’s ancient woodlands is providing a cheap source of winter fuel with firewood on sale at the borough council’s shop in East Carlton Country Park.
The Foxy Woodland Shop, which opened in spring, also sells locally grown fruit, flowers and vegetables, as well as handcrafted gifts.
Run by a team of volunteers, the shop’s profits are ploughed back into the borough’s woodlands, helping to pay for conservation projects.
Corby Council’s lead member for environment, Cllr Mark Pengelly, said: “The Foxy Woodland Shop represents everything good about shopping locally and puts all profits back into maintaining the woodland for the whole community to continue enjoying.
“With cheaper prices, locally sourced products, environmentally friendly principles and involvement from local volunteers this shop is something that we should be very proud of.”
