Wellingborough theatre group heading to Edinburgh with new show

GLJ Theatre has headed to Scotland this week with its brand new show, Plain As Paper, featuring six performers aged between 18 and 24-years-old.

The show has been directed and created by Gary L. Johnson, who is the youth trustee and artistic director of the theatre group based at Glamis Hall in Wellingborough.

The group will be putting on its show at Greenside @ Nicolson Square from today (August 5) until August 20, although there will be no performances on August 7 or 14.

Gary said: “Plain as Paper is the perfect ‘first show of the day’ bringing characters, storytelling and lots of paper to life on stage.

“What better way to set yourself up for a fantastic Fringe day?”

The show begins with a young man on stage with hundreds of plain pieces of paper all around him.

His imagination starts to wander and his mind travels through time and space into key moments of world history.

With his imagination in full swing, the audience gets to see what’s going on inside his mind through movement, music and paper.

GLJ Theatre invited local young performers from Northamptonshire to take part in the project.

Gary said: “We wanted to give them the opportunity to work in a professional company and environment at a national festival.

“GLJ Theatre is very proud to be able to see these young performers grow from strength to strength over the rehearsal period and to help them create a very unique show.

“With no words during the performance, the cast have worked incredibly hard on the characters, storytelling and emotions that are seen in Plain As Paper.

“GLJ Theatre feels it’s created a fun, exciting and moving show for the whole family to enjoy.

“We see how the imagination of a young man is used and we see where our minds can wander, whether that’s the Queen’s coronation, to the devastating days of war that attacked our nations.

“Paper folding, cutting and scrunching can tell a good story.”

Tickets cost £8 or £6.50 for the show, which starts at 10.20am each day and lasts for 50 minutes, and can be bought by calling the box on 0131 2260000.
