The Coach and Horses in Oxford Street, a real ale and cider house with 12 real ales and 15 real ciders, was presented with the award from CAMRA this week.

A statement on the website for the county branch of CAMRA said: “After a close run on judging against CAMRA’s Pub of The Year criteria, the Coach and Horses was judged Town and overall County Pub of The Year 2015.

“Congratulations to John who makes this a pleasant and friendly pub in the heart of Wellingborough.”

John Eames, who has been landlord since 2008, said: “It’s nice to see that the hard work is paying off and customers are still enjoying what we provide.”

He has put the pub’s latest award down to the quality of beer, ambience, decor and mix of clientele.

Other awards won by the pub include Northants Camra Pub of The Year 2010, Northants Camra Pub of The Year 2008 and East Midlands Pub of the Year Runner-up 2009.

It has also been listed in the Good Beer Guide from 2008 to 2015.

John likes to support micro-breweries and serves various beers made by breweries in Northamptonshire as well as from further afield.

The beers are on constant rotation so customers, whether new or old, have something different to try.

Given the pub’s success and popularity with customers, an outside ale bar is being built in the garden and this should be ready before the pub hosts its Coachfest beer and music festival from August 26 to August 28.

The Bank Holiday event will see 40 beers on sale as well as more than 20 acts playing.
