The Award is a regular donation made to good causes in Wellingborough that would benefit from extra funding for their community work.

The seventh winner of the award: the Friendship Club at the Victoria Centre offers a place for older people, many of whom live alone and suffer from mental and physical health problems, to have a hot meal and meet other people in a social setting.

The award of £1,000 will provide funding towards room hire and activities, such as games, gentle exercise, shows and seasonal celebrations.

The donation of £1,000 will provide a welcome funding boost for the group, which offers a vital lifeline for local people who might otherwise suffer from the negative impacts of social isolation.

“We are very proud to support the Friendship Club and the important role it plays in combatting loneliness amongst older people in the community.”

Adam Humphrey, Centre Manager at Victoria Centre added: “We are thrilled that the Friendship Club has been selected as the latest recipient of the Stanton Cross Community Award. The funding we receive will make a huge difference to all of our members, who benefit hugely from the activities and opportunities for social interaction that the group offers.

“We are very thankful to Bovis Homes for their generosity and recognition of the important role our Friendship Club plays for many older people living in Wellingborough.”
