Wellingborough firm turns Black Friday orders into donations for food bank
A company has been spreading some Christmas cheer after pledging to donate food for every order it received on Black Friday.
While shoppers were trying to bag a bargain on Black Friday, Marler Haley in Wellingborough decided to donate a food parcel to Wellingborough food bank for every order it received that day.
Once all the orders were in, the firm which is based on the Park Farm industrial estate went shopping and filled two trolleys with festive food.
They bought more than 100 items, including toiletries, drinks, Christmas treats and some general necessities that most people take for granted.
Andrew Pocock, sales and marketing director at Marler Haley, said: “Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for families who are struggling financially.
“With thousands of people rushing to the sales to fight over the latest bargain to put under their Christmas trees, our thoughts turned to those who are struggling to provide even the basic necessities that most of us take for granted. “Food, drink and toiletries.
“That’s why we wanted to help by donating Christmas-related food items to our local food bank.
“Not only does this help us to provide the antidote to Black Friday by focusing on the needs of our local community, but we hope that our donations will in some way help to spread a bit of Christmas joy to those most in need this year.”
Viv Adams, the day centre and food bank co-ordinator for the Daylight Centre Fellowship which runs the Wellingborough food bank, was very grateful to receive the donation.
Although this is not the first time Marler Haley has tried to do its bit for charity.
For the past six years, the company has given away £300 worth of displays through its annual charity competition.
It also provides free banners to charities and ongoing discounts.
Mr Pocock added: “We’re so pleased that our Black Friday promise has generated so much enthusiasm from our customers who have chosen to support our charitable efforts by purchasing with us on Black Friday.
“We would urge everybody to consider donating to their local food banks this Christmas.”
