Wellingborough bridge set to re-open after six-month closure

A busy bridge on the edge of Wellingborough's Finedon Road industrial estate is due to re-open to traffic today (Friday).

The bridge has been closed since March

The Finedon Road railway bridge was closed back in March so it could be demolished and reconstructed as part of an upgrade to the Midland Main Line.

Network Rail apologised ahead of the closure, acknowledging that the work ‘may cause some disruption to those living in the area.’

And while many drivers and businesses will be delighted to see it re-open today, the disruption has made life difficult for some during the past six months.

Jewson, part of the chain of builders merchants which supplies tools, materials and construction equipment, is based on the industrial estate and has had access issues due to the closure.

But with the disruption set to come to an end, Jewson is keen to let all its customers know that the bridge is re-opening so they are having a special event next month for both trade and members of the public.

A post on the branch’s Facebook page says: “On Wednesday 14th November we will be holding a trade/relaunch day all day from 7.30am.

“The bridge leading into the industrial estate will be open from October 12, which has caused many access issues to our branch over the last few months so we looking forward to welcoming our customers old and new coming back to us.

“Save the date.”

They are keen to let people know that it is business as normal for them and anyone who has been put off from visiting them during the closure should no longer have problems with the bridge.

The open day is taking place at the Jewson site in Meadow Close on the industrial estate from 7.30am to 5pm on November 14.

The bridge is due to re-open by 4pm today.
