Wellingborough breast cancer charity launches its 18th pin badge

Crazy Hats officially launched its new pin badge this week at The Priory in Wellingborough, which has sponsored this year’s design of a pink bow with wool and knitting needles.

It ties in with the lengths of bunting adorned with pink bows which are set to go up across the county during October to encourage women to attend their mammogram appointments.

Glennis Hooper, founder of the Wellingborough based charity which raises money to improve breast cancer care at Kettering and Northampton general hospitals, said: “This is our 18th hat pin badge and we now have collectors across the UK asking for them.

“We hope they will sell well again and that many knitters who have helped us will want one as a keepsake and for the cause itself.

“We will have them wherever we will be throughout October, there will be various outlets and we will have them here at the office if people would like to get in touch.”

The Priory pub has been a great supporter of Crazy Hats in the past two years, raising more than £5,000 for the charity and pledging to keep supporting them.

Glennis added: “The support from The Priory has been wonderful and all the staff are so enthusiastic.

“We truly thank them and the company for all their hard work and loyal support.”

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is set to be a busy time for Crazy Hats, including events at Wellingborough’s Swansgate Centre, Corby town centre, the Newlands Centre in Kettering, Rushden Lakes and Northampton’s Grosvenor Centre and Weston Favell Shopping Centre.

It will also see the unveiling of the results of the pink bow project, which has been incredibly popular with people knitting pink bows and sending them to Crazy Hats from around the world.

Glennis said: “We’re almost ready to start delivering 300 lengths of bunting to a multitude of outlets across the county as from next week.

“I know demand will surpass what we have, which is amazing.

“The support has been unbelievable and the Facebook friends who have turned up either at Colemans Craft Warehouse or the Tesco’s Community Room to help has been humbling, they have loved it and want to do more.

“We’ve also finished one of the life-size bows which is rather impressive and will certainly draw people in when we are out there.”

The pin badges cost £1 and will be available throughout October.
