Wellingborough and Corby residents set for £5 increase in council tax

Both Wellingborough and Corby Councils are set to rubber-stamp their council tax for the coming year at meetings taking place on Thursday (February 23).

A report prepared ahead of the Wellingbrough Council meeting states: “The resources committee have considered the budget proposals for 2017/18 to 2020/21 as part of the medium term financial plan and the recommendation is to increase the borough element of council tax in 2017/18 by £5 to £105.71.”

The report for Corby councillors to consider states: “This report sets out the proposed general fund budget for 2017/18, as recommended by the One Corby Policy committee on February 7 2017.

“A council tax increase of £5 (2.8 per cent) is recommended.

“The proposed budget shows a balanced and sustainable position in line with the medium term financial strategy (MTFS).”

In addition to Wellingborough and Corby borough councils setting their element of the council tax bill next week, Northamptonshire County Council will also meet on Thursday to set its council tax.

The police precept will make up the full amount people need to pay in council tax next year.

Wellingborough’s council tax will be considered at a meeting of the full council starting at 7pm on Thursday in the council chamber at Swanspool House.

The council tax for Corby will be discussed at a meeting of the full council, also starting at 7pm on Thursday in the council chamber at Corby Cube.
