Weekend temperatures break records for mildest December day in Northamptonshire

Temperatures in Northamptonshire have beaten the warmest December Day on record for the county.

Pitsford Weather Station recorded a high of 15.4 degrees centigrade on Friday, matching the record for the mildest December day locally set in 1974.

Then on Saturday, the maximum temperature was 15.6, beating the record.

A spokesman for the weather centre said: “However, we are some way off beating the UK record of 18.3C which was set on 2nd December 1948 in Scotland.

“It is believed that the El Nino phenomenon currently being experienced in the Pacific Ocean is partly to blame for the unseasonal temperatures which are more typical locally of early May,” he added.
