Weavers School in Wellingborough has celebrated its best ever GCSE results day.

A total of 94 per cent of pupils secured at least five A* to C grades, smashing last year’s results.

The school said the increase in the number of pupils achieving better results had taken places despite reports of harsher examination marking this year.

Headteacher Jon Davis said: “The results this year are the best ever achieved in the school’s history – by a considerable margin.

“I am absolutely delighted for our students and their families and I am thankful for the hard work and determination of the staff that helped to secure this year’s excellent outcomes.

“Everyone’s hard work paid off and as expected there were many outstanding results; leading the way were Kayleigh Dennis, Tom Hadfield, Brett Taylor, Alicia Szablowska, Jonathan Rowland and Liam Oldfield, who between them amassed 67 grades at A* and A.”

Alicia Szablowska, 16, said: “I am really happy with my results. I now hope to carry on at sixth form and do A-levels.”
