Water rescue teams deployed after canoeist slips into river near Oundle

Water rescue teams were deployed after a canoeist slipped and dislocated his shoulder near Oundle yesterday (Sunday).

The specialist boats teams from Wellingborough and Mereway, as well as fire and rescue crews from Thrapston and Corby, were called to Ashton at about 3.20pm after a report of an injured man in the River Nene.

A fire service spokesman said the man in question, aged in his late 20s, was getting off his canoe onto land.

But as he did so he slipped and dislocated his shoulder.

The spokesman said he was on land by the time fire crews arrived to help.

He was left in the care of paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment for his injury.
