Warning issued after Northamptonshire women scammed by man they met on dating site

Police have warned dating site users after women from counties including Northamptonshire were scammed after meeting a man online.

Women from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire were all separately contacted by a man via dating websites such as Fabswingers and Plentyoffish before meeting up in person last year.

The women each had money or property stolen from them.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We are issuing a warning to users of dating sites after three women were scammed in the aftermath of having met a man online.

“We would like to remind anyone using these dating sites that a small minority of people using them may not be who they claim to be, and to never give personal financial details to anyone or send cash.

“If you have been a victim of a crime like this please contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting 1500094126.”
