Chief Constable Adrian Lee has welcomed Commissioner Adam Simmonds to the force on his first day in post.
Mr Lee said: “I have met with the commissioner to congratulate him on his new role, on behalf of all officers and staff in the force, and I very much look forward to working with him to make Northamptonshire safer and continue building the trust and confidence of our communities.
“The office of PCC is there to make sure that the link between communities and their police service is stronger.
“I have taken the view from the outset that any step to amplify the public’s voice in the shaping of important public services has to be positive – and I am convinced that these new arrangements can really make a positive difference for the people in this county.”
Mr Simmonds won the public vote to be the county’s first PCC last week.
He said: “I was elected as the PCC for Northamptonshire to make a difference and my focus will be on making your county the safest in the country.
“My aim is to cut crime and to ensure your police force is as effective as it can be. My job is to bring a more public voice to policing by asking you to shape police and crime priorities and ensuring the police budget is spent as effectively as possible.
“I am very much looking forward to the challenges ahead - and central to my approach will be remembering that the people of Northamptonshire have vested their trust in me.”
