DREADFUL weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of a dedicated group of walkers who took part in an annual charity event.
Every year the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Mill Road, Wellingborough, organises a walk at Eastfield Park in the town, and yesterday’s event took place despite the driving wind and rain.
The event is one of many being held nationwide as part of the BAPS Charities Annual Challenge 2012, and this year it raised cash for Macmillian Cancer Support.
The event has previously raised money for charities including the Anthony Nolan Trust and Kettering General Hospital’s children’s ward.
Participants ran, jogged or walked the 10km distance.
Dr Hiten Patel, lead BAPS Charities volunteer at the Wellingborough Mandir, spoke to the Evening Telegraph during the walk.
He said: “About 150 to 180 people are walking. It’s very wet and windy but everyone is in very high spirits.
“Everyone is a little cold and wet but we are pleased they made the effort.
“I can’t remember a time when we have walked in the rain. We won’t forget this year easily.”
