An appeal has been made for people to volunteer to help remove and paint over racist graffiti at a cricket club.

The plea comes following an incident at the Wellingborough Indians Cricket Club where racist graffiti was sprayed over the entire clubhouse on Thursday, September 19.

There has since been a further incident where two vehicles were destroyed in an arson attack on Wednesday, October 2.

Police are appealing for information about the two incidents, which they believe may be linked.

Staff from Northamptonshire Police will be at the cricket club over the weekend to remove the graffiti and are looking for extra volunteers to help with the painting.

Wellingborough Old Grammarians Rugby Club has donated the paint to remove the offensive graffiti.

Police will be at the cricket club in Sywell Road, Wellingborough, from 11am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday) and from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, October 6.

Anyone who would like to help is asked to call Luisa Jepson from the hate crime unit on 07557 776385.

Witnesses to these incidents, or anyone with information, can call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
