“Many volunteers gave up their time to help us with the kind donation from the Woodland Trust.

“We had 420 Wild Harvest hedging plants, including hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, dog rose and elder.

“Eventually these will bear fruit and nuts that can be used to make produce such as sloe gin, crab apple jelly, elderflower cordial or wine, dog rose syrup, and we will have our own supply of hazelnuts.

“We started to plant some snowdrops around the hedging and will be putting more in over the next few weeks while they are ‘in the green’.

“We hope to introduce more natural planting around the perimeter in the coming months

“On the day, Glamis Hall staff, trustees and volunteers were helped by Wellingborough Homes’ staff, residents and their children, and not forgetting Pedro the dog.

“Many tools were kindly supplied by the Friends of Croyland Gardens and the Lost Zoo and in return, the leftover plants will go to Croyland Gardens to add to their stock.

“An excellent example of joined-up working by various organisations in the town.”

To thank the volunteers for their help, everyone was treated to some homemade soup and bread provided by the Glamis Hall chef Lloyd.
