Carl Turner-Fountain was crowned Strictly Corby 2015 champion as Lakelands Hospice raised a whopping £34,000 at its annual charity dance event.
Carl, along with professional partner Laura Scriven representing Team Andy Hall and Lakelands Hospice, wowed the judges with their routines which, coupled with their fundraising, gave them the overall title.
The event, held at Best Western Rockingham Forest hotel on Friday, October 16, was hailed as an amazing success, with a crowd of 450 contributing to the charity’s best ever fundraising effort.
Carl said: “It was hard work and very time-consuming but a fantastic experience and the atmosphere on the night was electric.
“Alhough I was very nervous I was very proud to win it for Team Andy Hall.
“When the winners were announced it was worth all the effort, it’s also a very proud feeling to have helped raise so much money for a great cause.”
Runners up this year were James Longley, representing Utility Bidder & Corby Town FC, and his partner Tori Nowlan who danced a brilliant Dirty Dance medley as their showdance.
James also broke the individual fundraising record by raising well over £5,000.
In third place overall was David Renshaw, representing Lloyds Bank Corby, and his partner Donna Collins who performed to rapturous applause from the crowd.
Lakelands fundraising manager Paul Marlow, whose team organises the whole event in aid of the hospice, said: “We are all stunned to have beaten last year’s total by £1,000, it’s a truly amazing effort by all of the dancers who really pulled together as a team to put on a professional show.
“This event really captures the Corby public’s imagination with the tickets selling out in just over 10 minutes.
“The feedback from all quarters has been fantastic; The Mashdance Pop-tarts, Queens of Cardio and Vicki Louise Sherwin who performed in the intervals went down a storm and I’ve even had several people approach me after the show to put themselves forward for 2016.”
Patricia Reid, representing RS Components, and her partner Terry West took away the Best Show Dance award on the night, awarded by the judges for their stunning routine “Café Rendezvous”, while Nikki Rawson who represented Morrisons Corby and her partner Mike Gayle were awarded the “Spirit of Strictly” title which was given to the couple who have had the most interesting journey.
