Video of dancing six-year-old onstage at Northamptonshire rally goes viral

The video of a six-year-old boy who was pulled onstage to dance with a ska band during a concert in Northamptonshire over the weekend has been viewed more than 70,000 times in less than three days.

Staunch ska fans, Cai Roberts and his family completed a 400 mile round trip from their home in Prestatyn, Wales, to see The2Tones perform at the BWM Scooter Ska Rally at the Santa Pod Raceway near Wellingborough on Saturday, June 13.

Steve Cooke, member of the Northampton-based band, said: “Cai was an absolute star and it really made the show for us.

“I can’t believe how mental that video has gone over the last few days.”

Young Cai was pulled on stage by the band’s dancer, Simon, who spotted him dancing in the crowd to the band’s cover version of One Step Beyond by Madness. Lead singer Gav then handed him the microphone to join in singing.

Lorraine Saliwonczyk, another audience member, captured the moment on video and posted it on Facebook with the caption: “By far the best bit of the weekend - what a great little fella.”

His grandmother, Sheena Roberts, said: “He is quite a little character. He just loves dancing and singing to ska, no matter what it is.”

“In 2013, at four years old, he was pulled onstage at the Haydock Festival in Merseyside to dance with Madness. That’s where he ended up meeting UK comedian Johnny Vegas - who Cai now says is his best friend - and a picture of them online was spotted by Dr Martens head office, who then offered him a modelling contract.”

Familiar with the spotlight, Cai will be in front of cameras with Johnny Vegas again, and Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket, as they film new black comedy Womble: the Movie.

But, for now, Cai is enjoying the stardom attracted by his BWM Rally video, which has already been viewed 70,000 times and shared 900 times.

Mr Cooke said: “Despite the weather it was a great show, brilliant atmosphere, and everyone had a great time.”

The2Tones will be headlining in Northampton again this weekend during the Northampton Music Festival. On Friday, July 3, they will also be performing at The Picturdrome on Kettering Road. For more information, contact either event directly or visit the band’s Facebook page.
