The sun might have gone in today (Saturday) but the seaside arrived in Kettering in the form of a giant sand pit and splash fountains.
The annual council-run Kettering by the Sea opened in the Market Place.
As well as the giant sand pit and splash fountains, there is also a range of activities and entertainment schedules to take place over the next few weeks, including Punch and Judy, pantomimes, arts and crafts, interactive experiments from the London Science Museum, West Lodge Farm, live music and zumba activities.
Anthea Desborough, 66, Tudor Court in Kettering, took her grandson Jack along to the sand pit today.
She said: “I think it’s brilliant in these economic times because it doesn’t cost anything.”
Steven McAllister, 32, from Kettering, took his seven-month-old son Hugo and two-year-old daughter Darcey to play in the sand.
He said: “It’s a fantastic free facility for children and families to play together. I think it’s important for families to have an opportunity to have enjoyment together. For us it’s a nice treat as we are not going to be able to go on holiday this year.”
Kettering by the Sea will be open until August 18.
