Northants Fire and Rescue is set to begin its investigation into the cause of a fire that engulfed the former home of Rothwell Town FC last night.
The large blaze destroyed Rothwell Town FC’s old clubhouse in Cecil Street on the evening of Wednesday, July 24.
A spokesman for the fire service said the cause of the fire is still unknown, but investigations are due to begin today (Thursday, July 25).
The fire service was called just after 8pm on Wednesday evening, with the fire still burning after 10pm.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames as high as 50ft – with others reporting the smoke was visible as far away as Corby.
The fire service spokesman added that fire crews are in attendance this morning, to continue dampening down the building and inspecting it to ensure there are no ‘hot spots’ remaining.
He added that this procedure will continue until the end of the day, with crews periodically returning to the site throughout the day.
