VIDEO: Football club in Rothwell grateful for support after break-in

The secretary of a town’s football club has thanked people who have donated to a fund set up in the aftermath of a break-in.

It resulted in water damage being caused to the clubhouse.

A television was also stolen in the break-in, which was discovered on Easter Monday, while the entire water pipe system will have to be replaced.

Last week, the club’s manager and players set up a Just Giving page. Its target of raising £850, to cover the insurance excess and pay for additional security measures at Sergeants Lawn, has already been broken.

Club secretary Mark Budworth said: “It shows the players care about the club – they don’t just turn up and play. It’s been really heart-warming.

“We are hoping it will get close to covering the excess, replacing things we are not covered for and put some additional security into the premises.”

Mr Budworth thanked rival clubs, including Harborough Town and Burton Park Wanderers, for their support, as well as the Desborough and Rothwell Lions.

He also said the club planned later this year to say thank you to the community for its support by hosting a free event at Sergeants Lawn. More details will be released nearer the time.
