Update - 1.55pm Cause of former school fire is unknown

THE cause of a fire which devastated a former school building in Corby is still under investigation.

The fire broke out at the former Kingswood School in Gainsborough Road, Corby, at about 1.15am today.

At its height there were 50 firefighters at the scene from Corby, Kettering, Desborough, Rothwell, Market Harborough, Burton Latimer, Thrapston, Daventry and Northampton.

The fire destroyed the upper floor of a derelict building, including its roof.

Fire investigators have been at the scene and firefighters are continuing to damp down the building.

At about 1.30pm today the fire service announced the cause of the fire will be investigated when the building is safe to enter.
