Unwanted food sent to needy

HUNDREDS of people who are homeless and hungry are to benefit after a mix-up saw more than 700 sandwiches sent to Kettering Conference Centre.

Yesterday the centre, in Thurston Drive, donated the 750 sandwiches to organisations including St Jude’s Community Drop In Centre, Kettering, and the Daylight Centre, Wellingborough.

The food came before the centre re-organised a large conference event from this weekend to next week.

Sales manager Samantha Cooper said: “We did not want to see all these sandwiches go to waste so we decided to contact local homeless charities. We are happy these sandwiches went to people who really needed them.”

They were inundated with requests, donating sandwiches to a number of shelters.
