Unemployment benefit rate sees another slight fall

There was a slight fall last month in the number of people in north Northamptonshire claiming unemployment benefits.

Across Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northants a total of 5,413 people claimed jobseeker’s allowance (JSA) in May.

The figure was 77 lower than in April and also represented a more significant year-on-year fall of 2,703 people.

The current JSA claimant rate stands at 1.7 per cent in East Northants, 2.7 per cent in Kettering, 3.0 per cent in Wellingborough and 3.5 per cent in Corby.

The rate is at its lowest since July 2008 in East Northants.
