Almost 3,000 fewer people in north Northamptonshire are claiming out-of-work benefits since this time last year, new figures indicate.
It means there are fewer jobseeker’s allowance claimants in the north of the county than at any point since September 2008.
A total of 4,410 people across the area in last month – compared to 4,737 in July this year and 7,283 in August 2013.
In Corby, there were more than 100 fewer claimants last month compared to July, leaving the total at 1,092 or 2.6 per cent of the economically active population.
Wellingborough saw a similar fall in its total to 1,173, or 2.5 per cent.
Kettering’s figure of 2.3 per cent represented 1,362 JSA claimants, while the equivalent figures for East Northants were 1.4 per cent or 783 people.
