A man who has stood in a number of elections for the English Democrats party has defected to UKIP.
Kevin Sills, of Desborough, will be representing UKIP in the forthcoming Kettering Council election in the Desborough Loatland ward.
Mr Sills has previously stood as a borough, county, Parliamentary and European candidate for the English Democrats.
He said: “I look forward to helping UKIP succeed locally.
“I want our country to be free and independent and now realise that UKIP offers the best pathway for this ambition.
“The other main parties have misled voters over the years but the time has come to vote in a fresh party for ordinary people with sensible policies for the future.”
Jonathan Bullock, UKIP Parliamentary candidate for Kettering, said: “We are very pleased that Kevin has signed up to UKIP’s principles and look forward to seeing him elected in Desborough Loatland.”
Derek Hilling, the English Democrats’ Parliamentary candidate for Kettering, said: “I am sorry to lose Kevin’s help, but as a friend I wish him well.
“However, I remain committed to the cause of England – and specifically to an English Parliament – which UKIP does not support.”
