Firefighters were called to two blazes at a local football club’s stadium yesterday (Friday).

Crews were called to Rothwell Football Club’s ground in Cambridge Street after reports of a fire in one of the stands at about 3.30pm.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The fire involved wooden benching and wooden panels in one of the ground’s stands.

“A total of 10 square metres of fire damage was caused.”

The fire was out by about 5pm.

As reported in the Telegraph in March, the ground is up for sale with Lambert Smith Hampton is actively looking for buyers for the site.

The place was put up for sale after the club went into administration with debts totalling £350,000.
