Niamh’s Next Step was set up by the parents of Niamh, who lost her 18-month fight with childhood cancer neuroblastoma aged just five in May 2012.

Since then, Sam and Chris Curry have been working tirelessly to raise awareness of the cancer and raise money to fund research into it.

Piers Morgan, who presents Life Stories on ITV and recently took to the sofa on Good Morning Britain, tweeted about World Cancer Day and asked for suggestions of charities to support.

Niamh’s Next Step was put forward and the charity was delighted to see a donation of £1,000 from the former Britain’s Got Talent judge on its Just Giving page this week.

Niamh’s dad Chris said: “A week or so ago he tweeted asking people to nominate good causes and quite a few people sent Niamh’s Next Step.

“Then yesterday by chance I checked the Just Giving page and noticed he had donated £1,000 plus Gift Aid for World Cancer Day.

“It’s amazing that he donated to Niamh’s Next Step and the awareness of neuroblastoma raised off the back of it is fantastic.

“We are so grateful to every single person who donates and supports to help us fund research into neuroblastoma, but this donation from Piers on World Cancer Day is a lovely touch.”

World Cancer Day took place on February 4.
