Tributes have been paid to a Wellingborough Councillor following his death at the weekend.
Peter Wright, a Labour councillor for Earls Barton, was a member of Wellingborough Council’s Audit Committee, Development Committee, Overview & Scrutiny Committee and Standards and Licensing Committee.
His colleague Cllr Tim Maguire, a Labour councillor for the Irchester ward, said: “It’s a sad loss to Peter’s wife, his family and friends and the people of Earls Barton.
“It’s also a sad loss to the Labour Party in general.
“I had only known him for a few years, but I had the privilege to be with him at a number of meetings.
“He was just such a nice man. You couldn’t say a bad word about Peter.”
Cllr Paul Bell, leader of Wellingborough Council, said: “We send our deepest sympathies to Mrs Wright and her family. The loss of Peter is a great shock. It’s a loss for the people of Earls Barton and the people of Wellingborough.
“I had a great deal of respect for Peter and I think he will be sadly missed.”
MP Chris Heaton-Harris, whose Daventry constituency incorporates Earls Barton, paid this tribute on Twitter last night: “Just heard of the untimely passing of Earls Barton Labour Cllr, Peter Wright. A dedicated community politician, he will be sorely missed.”
