Train companies are warning essential workers to delay journeys or find alternative routes from Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough on Tuesday morning.

East Midlands Railway says a signalling fault means trains cannot run between Luton and London St Pancras.

Any trains that do run will start and finish at Luton while Corby services will only run to and from Kettering.

A spokesman for the company said: "If you have not started your journey please consider travelling later if possible — this would be your better option to avoid any disruption. If you must travel you should use alternative routes which will be most comfortable and quickest way to get where you need to be.

"We are working on providing an amended timetable to provide a train service with rail replacement buses between London and Luton to connect with our trains.

"Network Rail now have specialist staff on site assessing the problems. At present we are still expecting the problem to be fixed in the next three-to-four hours.

"As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to now not resume on the affected routes until 11:00."

Thameslink services between Bedford and London are also affected.
