And the county's Safer Roads Team have been quick to issue a fresh warning over speeding as drivers get used to being behind the wheel again.

One mobile speed camera clocked 20 speeding cars, 16 speeding goods vehicles and 11 drivers not wearing a seatbelt early on Monday (June 1).

That followed a weekend where one Colvidiot drriver was clocked doing 110mph along the same stretch of the Nene Valley Way.

A spokesman for the Safer Roads Team said: "Our first check this morning from an overbridge revealed a noticeable increase in traffic flow compared to last week.

Police clocked 653 drivers speeding last week, including nearly 300 in just one day.

The police spokesman added: "Thanks to the vast majority of drivers we saw last week who were capable of choosing a safe speed. Sorry to report 653 drivers across the county let the side down while 28 drivers thought it was a good idea to not wear a seat belt. The #SlowDownSaveLives message is clearly not getting through to some drivers

"One of our special constables stopped a vehicle on the A45 travelling at 110mph! The driver's excuse was "I was in a rush!

"Please drive safely and to the speed limits — they are there for a reason."
