The motorcyclist who died in a collision with a bus carrying sixth-formers during Wednesday’s rush hour has been named by police.

The fatal accident happened at about 8am, in Gretton Brook Road at the junction with Phoenix Parkway, Corby, and involved a Rodger’s coach and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Police have today (Friday) named the victim as 23-year-old Neil Watson of Corby.

Mr Watson was riding a white Honda CBR 125, when it was in collision with a white coach, at 8am on Gretton Brook Road, at the junction with Phoneix Park Way.

Police and the air ambulance attended the incident and the road was closed for several hours, forcing motorists to find alternative routes to work and causing traffic problems around the town.

A cyclist from Gretton was directed away from the scene and along the footpath past the Travellers’ site by police officers at about 9.30am. He said motorists were being told to turn round at the junction of Gretton Brook Road and Gretton Road.

Rodger’s Coaches, of Weldon, did not wish to comment.

Officers have issued an appeal for witnesses to contact them. Police would like to talk to a woman who was seen driving a silver Mercedes from the direction of Rockingham towards the Earlstrees Industrial Estate and the driver of a motorhome travelling from Gretton to Gretton Brook which was following a cement mixer. Witnesses can call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.
