Passengers facing nightmare trip home on trains to Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby

Rail passengers are facing huge problems heading back to Northamptonshire by train from London on Tuesday night.

Operator East Midlands Railway says a signalling fault between Luton and Leagrave means trains cannot travel north to Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby.

Disruption with delays and cancellations is likely to last until around 7pm tonight and will also affect services heading towards London.

A spokesman for EMR said: "Network Rail are investigating the cause of the fault and their engineers are expected on site by 3.15pm.

"Trains running through the area in the both directions are currently unable to run between Luton and Bedford.

"As soon as the signalling is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 7pm.

"You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed. You should use alternative routes which will be most comfortable and quickest way to get where you need to be.

"You may travel via alternative routes but please be advised that boarding controls may be in place for customers using alternative routes."
