One lane reopened on M1 between Northampton and Milton Keynes after vehicle fire

One lane has been reopened on the M1 southbound from junction 15 (Northampton) to 14 (Milton Keynes) after a vehicle fire shut down two lanes on the motorway.

Highways England reported traffic delays of over an hour on approach to the incident, which firefighters are dealing with.

Highways England tweeted: "There is five and a half miles of slow moving traffic, please allow plenty of extra travel time if in the area this evening."

Whilst a lane has been reopened, lane one is still closed so that recovery and clean up can continue to take place.

Traffic conditions are currently expected to return to normal between 5.30pm and 5.45pm later today (December 15).
