East Midlands Trains has said it will be running its normal planned timetable today (Christmas Eve).

Heavy rain and high winds have affected many train operators, and staff from East Midlands Trains and Network Rail employees have been clearing debris from track and stations, repairing damage and carrying out route testing to ensure a full service can run today.

Passengers who were unable to travel yesterday can use their ticket to travel on any East Midlands Trains service today. Normal ticket restrictions will apply on tickets for today.

A spokesman for East Midlands Trains, which serves runs trains to and from Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough stations, said: “We would like to thank passengers for their patience in some challenging circumstances. As a result of a great team effort by our own staff and the Network Rail team, we have been able to get all of our lines re-opened in time for this morning.

“Our priority now is to ensure that we can get everybody home in time to enjoy Christmas. We will have extra staff on hand throughout the day to assist passengers wherever possible in their journey home.”

As per the published Christmas timetable, services will finish earlier than normal today. Passengers have been advised to check their train times before travel by clicking here or by following @EMTrains on Twitter.
