People are being urged to enjoy a carnival weekend of fun, music and dance at a town’s annual parade.

Wellingborough Council’s 104th carnival weekend will take place on Saturday, July 7.

The weekend will begin on Saturday when people dress up to take part in an Olympic-themed carnival parade.

The parade will leave Broad Green at 1pm and move down High Street, along Church Street and Market Street before turning on to Midland Road and round Castle Way, before heading up Sheep Street and Silver Street. It will then turn left into Oxford Street and head along Northampton Road before arriving at Croyland Park at about 2.30pm.

Town centre roads will be closed for the duration of the parade and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

But Sunday’s party in the park has been cancelled due to the bad weather.

Wellingborough Council leader Paul Bell said: “Our party weekend is really special. The carnival is a chance to forget about bills and daily life and just have fun. Everyone makes such an effort and the costumes are amazing.”
