A town is gearing up for one of the highlights of the year this weekend.

The annual Desborough Carnival starts at 2pm with a parade from Dunkirk Avenue around the town, before ending up at the Recreation Ground.

A host of stalls at the Recreation Ground will also open at 2pm, while there will also be fairground rides for the children and entertainment in the main arena with marching bands, a gymnastics display, majorettes and other entertainment. A jazz band, Happy Jazz, will again play on the main stage during the afternoon.

Carnival Chairman Michael Crick said “The committee have worked hard since last year’s carnival and are confident that this year’s carnival Day will be up to the standard of previous years, and that we will be well supported by the town.

“We would encourage as many as possible to enter the parade, as in previous years.”

The carnival weekend will finish with a Town Carnival Service to be held on Sunday, June 30, in the Baptist Church in the town at 6pm.

Last year more than £3,000 was raised and distributed to organisations in the town.
