There was cheering and clapping as the cyclists set off in glorious sunshine from the Guildhall in Northampton at 10.45am today (Sunday).

The route saw them cycling 113km from the centre of Northampton to Kettering town centre, where they arrived at about 2pm.

The peloton passed through numerous locations during it’s visit to the county, including south Northamptonshire, Daventry, Guilsborough, Naseby, Desborough and Rothwell.

Today was the final stage of the five-day event, which attracts some of the best female cyclists in the world.

Cyclist Lotta Lepisto won today’s stage, but the overall tour winner was British cycling star Lizzie Armitstead.

Large crowds gathered in Kettering Market Place for the podium presentation.

This is the third time the Women’s Tour has been to Northamptonshire.

Last year, the race was watched by 67,500 people who lined the streets from Oundle to Kettering and it brought £1 million into the local economy.
