Try to position the eyes a third of the way down

When photographing people, a common mistake is to put their head in the middle of the frame.

Try to put the head towards the top of the frame, but leave some space if it is a full-length portrait.

If you are taking a close-up head shot, cropping the top of the head is fine, and try to position the eyes about a third way down the image.
