There’s still time to nominate a sportsman, sportswoman, club or volunteer in this year’s search for the unsung sporting heroes of Corby.
The great and the good from Corby’s sporting scene will be recognised at Corby Council’s 2015 Sports Awards taking place in October.
This is our chance to say thank you and well done to local people that contribute to sport in CorbyCllr John McGhee
While the council is in the midst of organising the event, there is still time to get your nominations in.
The awards are a way to thank local clubs, schools, volunteers and individuals for their contribution to sport, and it could be anyone from the next Simon Barclay or Dan Keatings to a volunteer who goes above and beyond the call of duty every week.
Nominations can be made for the following categories: Local sports person of the year, long time contribution to sport, volunteer of the year, team of the year, Get Active 2015, coach of the year, young leader of the year, community club of the year, disabled sports achiever, young sports person of the year, primary sports school of the year and secondary sports school of the year.
Speaking earlier this year, Corby Council’s lead member for community, Cllr John McGhee, said: “Here in Corby we have so many people who dedicate their time and efforts on becoming the best in their field of sport, work behind the scenes, hold our local clubs together and live and breathe their sport, showing teamwork, inspiring others and championing a real sporting spirit.
“This is our chance to say thank you and well done to local people that contribute to sport in Corby but we can’t do it without your help, so please take a moment to nominate in this year’s sports awards.”
Nominations are open until midday on Friday, September 18.
Winners will be announced at an invite-only awards ceremony on Thursday, October 22.
